Pasty bottom! Help!

I am having to clean some of the baby chicks butts twice a day right now

I dont know why they are so bad but I dont want them to get sick and die from it. I already use ACV with the mother in their water. Does that "Sav-a-chick" stuff work better? I might be trying that.

The transition of the chick's digestive system from surviving off of yolk the first two days, to getting used to digesting a starter/grower formula does that, and it is normal. You'll have to do it the first week they are alive. How old are your chicks?

The ACV or yogurt helps more with the pasty butt to get their digestive system going. Sav-a-chick/pediolyte is more for lethargic or struggling chicks.

ACV is a natural antibacterial and assists in breaking down calcium. It serves no purpose for the transition period from yolk to starter. The old method that works is to offer some chick scratch in addition to starter ration. Add some Probios dispersible powder to the water and the pasty droppings will go away. It is normal to see pasting the first week of life for a chick.

I have been using that.. But i always mix it a little weak. Do you put yours in two separate dishes like it says?

I also mix it a little weak since I don't make the entire gallon at once. I've never given it to them separately either.

This is my first time with chickens some of them had pasty bottoms. One of my silkies is very small and she was one of the ones that had it. I have been cleaning there bottoms a couple of times a day. I have noticed that she is not eating and not moving around very much tonight. I put apple cyder vinegar in there water. Is there any thing else I can do? And what is the acv with the "mother"?

We just an additional 6 chicks to the flock and one has pasty butt real bad. I use a warm cloth to get it off. All the other 5 are fine. The one with the butt issue is the runt of them too. I'm old school and use the warm cloth to clean them off.

I sometimes put Vaseline on their bums after I wash them with warm water. Another thing to try is buttermilk mixed in with some of their feed.

The "mother" means it is natural organic and non-distilled. It is the "muddy" looking one not the clear variety.
