Pasty bum

then they'd have to stay inside for a while to dry out so they won't get cold in their brooder in my barn. I might try that if they get it again

If you should have any reoccurance of pasty butt try putting a little raw apple cider vinegar in their water. Bragg's is a common brand. A teaspoon per quart of water, it works really well to put a stop to pasty butts.
would regular vinegar work?

A bit of yogurt mixed in with some of their crumbles helps too. They need the probiotics to help them balance their tummies. Normally when hen raised they get the good microbes they need from pecking at mom's poop. Use warm water to soften pasty butt and gently remove clumps. Use vasoline to soothe and protect from further poop hardening. and

Yes. I use what I have which is Yoplat. They love blueberry; the main thing is giving them probiotics. Either yogurt or the Braggs Apple Cider with the mother will do the trick.
It is fun watching them go nuts for the yogurt treat though.

I'll probably get some braggs today. How much yogurt to the feed? Also should I put a little bit of dirt in there to give them some grit?

Most chick start crumbles already has a bit o grit in it. I normally mix a big spoon with enough crumble to make a moist mash on the yogurt. If you are planning to use the cider then don't give the yogurt. I forget the dosage on the cider.

I know the dosage on the cider. I only had two chicks today with pasty butt so I'm going to wait until tomorrow and if none have it I won't treat them. One of my little babies, Col. Grey, sits in my hand willingly now:D
