Hey all.
It’s me again. Y’all have been so great about answering questions and I have one more. One of my chicks keeps getting pasty butt (or at least I think? It also looks like poop/pee is just getting stuck in her fluff and then piling up) I check on her everyday multiple times and she otherwise seems fine. She is eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. seems energetic when I give the boiled egg and overall seems fine.

i know a common factor is temp. They all seem really content with the temp. No signs of over heating and they don’t all lay under the heat lamp either. Usually they are laying just outside where the light hits in a little pile or line (it’s quite cute).Any suggestions would be great. I want to make sure I’m giving her what she needs. None of my other chicks seem to have this problem.

I had a chick like that. Everyone else had cleared and it kept coming back when I cleaned it. Shes an old girl now, but i swear that bird has chicken IBS. It's not like vent gleet or anything terrible. Just her butt has never been quite right. That being said I stopped cleaning it since shes been outside. Shes only had one hard molt where I brought her in since she was weak. And she bounced back fine and has molted since with no issues. So it really could be an individual difference with that bird.

Yeah, just do some sporadic spaced out treatment with warm but not quite hot water to gently massage at the vent to break it loose. Don't force the shit scab loose, just gently work at it a few times spaced out evenly.

I also congratulate on even noticing this. Its not always easy to see everything going on when people are busy.

When you did notice it, was it walking funny or doing anything that gave you a signal something was off, other than visibly seeing the debris itself on the vent?

Yes, I have been cleaning it every time I notice. Just unsure what keeps causing it or if there will be other issues because of it.
have you been cleaning it? just get some warm water and some que tips and kinda wipe it away, thats what ive always done anyways then youll want to dry it good and proper!!!

No, she seems totally fine. She walks fine, eats, drinks, sleeps, there are no other issues. I can’t see anything wrong with the vent. It isn’t swollen or red. She does seem to get really stressed though when I clean it, so I am nervous about that.

That is interesting! I hope it’s no big deal. She is a bit smaller than the other 4 chicks and I was initially worried about it, but she has grown a bit more the last few days.
