I have a 5 day old silky chick that has a pasty butt.
It is not impeding her from pooping. But i still want to clean it up, so what do i do? Give her a warm bath or something?

I dip a qtip in nice warm water till it's dripping and carefully soak the base of the packed on stuff, repeat until detached. Then either under a lamp or blow dry on low.

If it's really dried on her fluff, I like to use a wet cotton ball and just hold it there for a little while to soften it, and then use the Q-tip method mentioned above ^. After you get it off, if she's not super wet then you can just put her back in the brooder. If she is really wet, just give her a quick blow dry but be careful that it doesn't get too hot. Hope that helps!

Try adding a dish of instant oats to the brooder. I read somewhere that it helps with pasty butt. I've tried it with three batches of chicks. Seems to work!

JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO RUB TOO MUCH WHEN WIPING WITH A WARM, WET WASHCLOTH. IF YOU SEE ANY SLIGHT TEAR IN THE TENDER SKIN OR A LITTLE BLOOD, YOU CAN APPLY JUST A TOUCH OF TOPICAL ANTIBIOTIC THAT YOU CAN PICK UP AT THE DRUGSTORE.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CHICKS!
