I bought a bunch of chicks 5 days ago and this included 4 bantam chicks and 7 golden comets (which are quite alot larger then the bantams). The day after I got them, 3 of the bantams had pasty butt. I took care of them the way I've always done it and put them back. The next day, I checked on them again and one of them had it again. I took care of it again and the same thing happened the day after. This is now the fourth time and day in a row that it has happened to the exact same chick.
This chick was pecked by the others on the vent but it is now pretty much healed. I'm cleaning out the broader today but other than that, I can't think of a reasoning. Last night, I gave it some apple cider vinegar and that hasn't helped. Is there anything I can do to stop this?? I don't want to have to clean the same chick everyday!!

Maybe try some sav a chick electrolytes in the water and/or separate the problem child with a friend onto paper towels for closer monitoring???? You didn’t post your set-up so its difficult to say for sure.

Solution for pasty but is to add 3/4 tsp of apple cider vinegar for a quart of water. You can add it to the communal waterer, it won’t hurt if other chicks don’t have pasty butt. If it doesn’t work, you can add more apple cider vinegar, up to 1 tsp. I recommend you try this electrolyte mix to prevent pasty butt in the future:

per 1 quart water

4 cups warm water
2tbsp + 1 tsp white granulated sugar or molasses
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
OPTIONAL: 1/2 tsp potassium chloride

Only feed this to chicks while they are in the brooder. Once they move out, it’s best to move to a store bought electrolyte mix. Just add this to their water. The best way to find potassium chloride is to find a salt substitute in the store. Just adjust the recipe to the size of your waterer. Hope this helps!!!

Also, along with cleaning the chick with lukewarm water, you can use a q-tip to put some olive or vegetable oil on their vent. You can try mixing their feed into some plain greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, or cornmeal.
