I found more often than not, that medicated feed caused a more runny poo..thus the pasty butt.I am feeding them medicated chick crumble. Do I need to get chick grit yet? I can pick some up after church if it would help.

Sounds like you're on the right track! You're being a good mom taking care. Not all notice this problem until it's too late.I went and bought some and sprinkled it over their feeder and around it.
I cleaned up her bum again and rubbed a bit of coconut oil on with a q-tip. It was still totally clean a couple of hours later. I have no idea what I am doing, but hopefully I am doing it right =)
It's very good that her vent hasn't been pasting over.In case anyone is following-- she still has a little poo in her down, but her vent has been totally clean since Sunday. She is still scared of me, but the other chickies are starting to warm up to me.
