pasty butt?

so i am kinda new to chickens, and have 4 day old araucana chicks! Can someone explain to me what pasty butt it? a lot of posts have been about this but I don't know what it is and I want to make sure my chicks are healthy!

Pasty butt is when poop sticks to the chicks vent. To prevent pasty butt, I mix clean play sand in their food, or use dirt with no fertilizer in their brooder, instead of shavings. Hope this helped
