I have a chick who's gotten pasty butt twice in a row. I've cleaned her up really good both times and covered her little vent with olive oil each time, but she got it again. I'll check tonight when I get home, but is this normal or should I be worried?

She active, up, eating, drinking and chirping happily away.

Hi - i have a bantam that was pasty when I bought her (that's why I picked her, so I could help her!) I had to soak her butt every day for about a week. She was/is always happy and loud too! I think they out grow it. It is not uncommon, I would not worry. Just make sure you check her every day, it could be deadly if you don't. Good luck!

I have a naked neck turken about 2 weeks old or so that gets a little bit of poop on her backside but not much. She still messes with it like its bothering her but I pull it off with no troubles. Her vent area might look swollen, don't have feathers or fuzz on it so just sticks out.
So is a red swollen vent pasty butt?
I'm going to start apple vinegar tonight mixed in water if I can find how much to mix.

2-3 table spoons ACV to a gallon water. You can give it as long as you like.

At what age do you folks reckon we can stop worrying about pasty butt? Our chicks are doing better with it (not many problems to begin with), but it worries me a bit. When can I stop being fussy about this?

I have only had the one experience of having pasty butt. That is 12/60 chicks total. They were all CornishX which in my experience have a different poop consistency. My last batch had "cling-ons" but nothing that covered the vent. That is what I look for. I did nothing to those and they are healthy and active and they fell off on their own with no harm to the chick. Look for it covering the vent.
