Pasty Butt?

My runt has a recurring problem with it. I've had to hold it's bum under warm running water and use a q-tip to loosen the stuff. Since then, it's been better, but I keep checking.....They're 3 1/2 weeks old. I also gave it some olive oil 2x. It seemed to have a lumpy, swollen, crop.

i have a serama chicks whos about 3 weeks old and i gave her some epison salt and i am trying the boiled egg trick she has had it for about a week and i dont know what to do i clean her vent everyday and i started putting avc in it and it helps some but what is the most effective treatment for pasty butt PLEASE NEED INFO ASAP!!!

ACV in their drink water and apply some vaseline to the affected area to prevent more poop sticking to it.

When mine were chicks i had the same problem and I would take some Hydrogen peroxide and soak it up with a cotton ball and hold it on the poop that was stuck and it would soften it. I also go to the point to where i had to cut some of the fur away from her bottom. This was done very carefully of course but did seem to help with as much sticking to her. I used vasoline to help the poop run off instead of sticking. No need to worry though as long as she is cleaned daily and eating and acting normal she will come out of it. Good Luck

well mine today died none of the remedies worked i thought they did but a few hours after i cleaned it vent and put olive oil on it it died

Sorry to hear.
Often we dont notice the poop stuck until something else catches our eye. It could have been the stuck poop was a symptom of something else that made them lazy enough to not move when they poop or sit just anywhere and get it stuck to them. With my guinea keets I think that was the case as nothing seemed to help, even after the vent was cleared for a couple days. They say that if it is left a while toxins build up and the poor chick cant poop them out fast enough.

Remember that the vent gets rid of both urea and feces, so toxins build up really fast with a blockage.

I got in the habit of checking butts every other day and everyone is doing so much better. Maybe even too good!

My chick is 11 days old. It originally had pasty butt which i tended to regulary (whipping, yogurt, eggs, and apple cider vinegar). Nothing seemed to help. The chick also peeped very loudly every time it pooped. Now the chick does not appear to be pooping. It was very bloated and waddled when it walked. Yesterday i soaked her in warm water and used a Q-tip to press around the vent a lot of poop came out. Chick doesn't seem any better today.
