i was wondering if anyone had roosters with any kind of paternal instinct instinct care or even acknowledgement of any chicks for example a friend of mines rooster would scratch around and pull up worms or bugs and hold it in his beak in front of chicks for them to eat so anyeone who has seen this in roosters share your stories and the more pics the merrier !

My rooster was very good with chicks. He'd join the mother hen with her babies and pick out bits of food for them. Sadly, he went in the slow cooker as he turned vicious, but that was down to my inexperience in keeping roosters - you live and learn!

We have one of our roos inside due to a bad bumble foot infection that my mom (former veterinary tech) had been treating (it’s under control now). We also have ten babies that we hatched. I had the thought to introduce them and see what would happen, and turns out this rooster has better mom instincts than any of our hens, even the broody ones! The babies push each other around to sit under him, and he spreads his wings apart to let them under. The babies sit on and under him and preen his feathers and pick food off of his beak. He actually used to be a more aggressive bird before we had to keep him inside and now he’s a giant love bug. I would’ve never anticipated Red becoming a papa bird, but he’s all about these babies and they’re all about him.
