My hatch is over--*sigh*

Eggs from DMRippy - only 1 of the SBELs started--hatched beautifully! (I will be asking for more), Marans eggs - hatched 1 appearing black, 1 definite blue, and one that appears splash. It has a dark black back, but blue colored wings, sides, and head. Of my other 2 marans, one quit somewhere around day 10, the other started hatching, fell out of its carton and got kicked over while I was making dinner. I tried to rescue the little guy, but when I picked it up it was already gone.

Depressing.

Eggs from gamebirdsonly - got a mix of marans and olive eggers - none of the marans would hatch. I lost them all somewhere during lockdown. Two olive eggers hatched--but both of those were in their eggs upside down and I had to assist. They couldn't kick out. These were all in the mail for 5 days and I'm thinking that caused them to develop funny. That was probably the issue with the marans eggs, as well. Darn postal service!

My two olive eggers are adorable little cuties.

wow how did I not know about this thread?!?!?!?

Going to actually have to start using it!

Going to unpack eggs from BHep right now!

lol you're too funny Donna! Your eggs arrived in perfect condition btw! I feel like the packaging of hatching eggs is evolving in a very great way! I've been having the most amazing rates from eggs that are shipped upright. I've sort of adopted different methods and am finding that a good layer of packing and then taping the eggs together in a group upright has been working well. Though I have to say it's important that people label the boxes with at least fragile on them. I'm finding boxes shipped with no warning on them are arriving damaged or dented.

Also I'd like to put it out there that eggs can be wrapped too well. I was shipped some recently and I almost broke the eggs trying to get them out of the bubble wrap. It's sort of a fine balance to achieve the perfect sort of solution. Oh and I NEED to know where you got those folding crates! I went to our Dollar Tree and they only had static crates which had really large holes. The ones you have look perfect for hatch time!

also if we can get more people to label the breeds with common acronyms? I got some yesterday and I have NO idea what half of the letters refer to! I also like to date mine but that's just me

But you are right, I should start dating them. No one knows my nutty system of sorting eggs.

I received by eggs from AyeUpChuck today!! They were packed very well! The PO was pretty rough with them though.... The box was pretty beat up but none were broken! Thank you very much for the extras!!!
