Congrats on the pair. I just bought a 4 month old quad of Crested and Non Crested Cream Legbars today. Hoping to use one of the new roos as my main breeder because they have crests.

Now, this is my first time using an incubator and I am hoping desperately that I'm doing it all correctly.  My update on candling thus far is:

Lav Orps from kraftyladies--these were lost in the mail for 8 days!  Still in the homemade incubator.  I cannot see A THING through these eggs when I try candling them so it's hard to tell.  Today is only day 4, but I hoped to see some veining somewhere.  4 of them have the same size air sack as when I put them in so I think they're goners.  The other 4 have a much larger dark air sack area, but they are so dark I'm not seeing any veining yet.  Will wait and see...poor things went through so much in the mail, I'm hoping some make it.  Not kraftyladies fault at all.

Eggs from DMRippy--These are on day 6.  I have the BBS Marans eggs that are sooooo dark, I can't tell much at all.  Here is what this novice is seeing--1 egg appears to have some veining that I can tell, 1 has a small air sack like when it went in, and 3 I'm unsure about.  The dark area on these appears to have "saddled" and takes up most of the upper part of the egg.  Since these are such a dark brown, I'm not able to really see any fetus or veining.   Any suggestions?
Also from DMRippy, I have some SBELs also on day 6.  The two that were marked from the Blue Wheaton are not veining at all.  The one from the Lavender is the BEST LOOKING EGG in my bator right now!  That thing looks super!  I also got an extra--a WL that isn't showing any growth or veining.

From gamebirdsonly--I have Olive Eggers and Cuckoo Marans.  Three out of 4 cuckoo marans look great.  Good veining on those.  All 4 of the olive eggers are super looking, too!

At this point, I'm happy.  I just have one question from you veterans!  Some of my eggs with great veining have the ring--what looks like a fine blood ring...is that normal on every egg?  All appear to be growing.  If I candle again at day 10...will I be able to tell for sure on those?  I have combed through all of the threads and a few sites with pictures of candling and I'm still somewhat lost.  I'd appreciate any advice.

I am now on day 11 and still no eggs in the mail from AyeUpChuck.  Who knows where they are...  planning to ship more eggs to me after my incubator empties out.

My suggestion is leave all the white eggs till day 10-14 and toss the clear ones then. The marans....... keep them till hatch day if you cant see in them. Just smell them and make sure they dont explode. Some eggs take longer to vein. I dont usually check till day 10. It will be obvious then.

Geez...are you sure they'll stink before they explode? I don't want that mess!

Ha! I honestly can't tell much on those marans because of the darkness. The only differences I can see is the size of what I thought was the air sac--some are normal like the other eggs and some have a large area of darkness from that carries down the sides. I'm excited! When I first candled the one white one from your lav roo...the veining was really great and my kiddos gathered around to ooohhh and ahhhhh. LOL Hilarious!!

I don't think they will explode.... they are fresh eggs. They usually do stink at my place before they explode... but it is more like they spring a leak

I have a stinker now and can't find it.... I will check them again tomorrow to see if I can find it. I pulled 1 out that I thought MIGHT have been the stinker but apparently NOT!

Wait till they see in the whites when it MOVES. This is from my first hatch. My granddaughter was really excited and my Son was too. We used his phone to candle with LOL. Worked!
Great clip! I'm just about as excited as the kids. I'm just anxious about doing something wrong. I'm dry hatching and my humidity is staying somewhere between 36 and 39. My temps stay where they should be all day, but drop to 98 sometime in the night...so I'm constantly up and checking to be sure. The homemade bator for the shipment that came in late is also doing its job. It maintains a good temp and oddly enough as a dry hatch--it is staying at a 42 or 43 for humidity. Ahhh...considering what they went through with our postal service I will be happy with a 50% hatch rate. So far, I think 24 of my 38 eggs look to be doing something. Twelve of those are lemon cuckoo orps I got at a farm a few hours away and brought home. Every one of those is veining!

Just hope they aren't all ROOS!!

My temps have been dropping at night too. Should not cause a problem, they will just be late to hatch. Mine are running about 1.5 behind. I did some changes yesterday and I hope I fixed that. I added some more weather stripping to the top of the door were it was leaking heat. Added a dehumidifier base for more heat. Upped the light back to 75 watts and put a fan directly over the dehumidifier base to circulate the air better. We will see... not going to worry too much if that didn't work. If it dips in the teens here I will start the heater up to help.
