PC's Evil Silkie Eggs Are In My Bator! ** UPDATE pg 7 **

Quote:
For a normal hatch 65% is good but since I advised DC to open the eggs I say
try to get it up higher than 75% so they don't dry out in the eggs.

cool thanks...I'm not kidding...i'm taking notes. I am really going to follow this thread. Thanks for answering my question...i'll have a ton more as the hatch happens. Mine isn't till friday or so.

I can't wait to see pics!

Well the one is out and doing so so. My husband named him Trooper. He's in the brooder now. Oh, and he is silver! I have a partridge pipping, almost out now.

pumped the humidity as advised. Thanks!

Cmon TROOPER!!!!!

I would be so thrilled if you end up with 2 or 3 healthy chicks. Stupid shipped eggs...

My bator had 60 various quail eggs in it from 3 different sources. So far we have
4 birds. That's 4 out of 60!!!!

I know people are saying "we've had 100% hatches from shipped eggs". Yeah well
out of 20 attempts at hatching shipped eggs only a few worked out well and I know
the eggs were good when they left the vent.

Keep us posted DC!!!!!!!!!!! Give Trooper a little kiss from Grandpa PC!!!!

Here they are! Trooper and Martha Stewart. They were, btw, both marked as EVIL silkies.

I just figured I needed one evil chicken named Martha Stewart. BTW... Aren't they gorgeous?

Trooper is still not doing so great. As you mentioned, PC, it might have been the humidity in the beginning. It was at 47% when those first few were pipping. I guess the membrane was just too strong and they weakened and died. But Trooper made it out, he's just really weak still. Martha keeps poking at him a little. She's very healthy. AND APPARENTLY EVIL! Martha Stewart is so the spawn of evil grandpa PC!

You have no idea how stressed I was about those silkies!! I hope the two
of them make a nice pair for you. Next hatch will be better.

My black silkie roo will soon be on hs way to Texas to his new momma.
No more fertile eggs for us.

Don't worry about the evil thing. They were all evil anyways.

They are doing better, trying to walk around a little. They are just weak. I am going to go down and work with them on the food and water thing. It might help them to regain some strength. Doesn't look like any more are pipping. BUT YES, a nice pair. I hope they both flourish in the next few days. I will keep update pictures as they progress.

Thanks again, PC. This was only my third hatch, and my last for the season, and to get a few cuties out of it makes it all worthwhile.

PC... YOU ROCK!
