This is my first year hatching out pea chicks. I see some interesting coloring on them. I hatched an India Blue and it was brown but yet an India Blue white eye hatched out yellow. That baffles me.

Is there somewhere to learn more about the color of pea chicks and why they hatch the color they do? I thought I had a link to pages of peas and chick color but can't find it now.
Any input from you all would be wonderful.

I'm not sure if there's a website for peachick colors I've seen but do you possibly have any pictures of the peachicks in question so we can help you right here on BYC?

You don't have to help me identify the coloring. I know what they hatch out from. I run my birds in pairs and mark the eggs and know what hatches out of what pen.
What I guess I am asking is a bit more complicated.
Why does an IB chick hatch out brown and a India Blue white eye hatch out yellow?

Oh ok lol.
I read the first post wrong, I guess.
I have no idea on peachick genetics. I'm not going to be any help.

Describe the parents of the peachicks that you think are the odd inheritants. How old are they now?. can we see some pictures?

I read posts wrong all of the time, lol.

Okay, maybe I am not writing this out correctly.

I have IB pairs that are throwing chicks like this.....

And this I understand.
However, I do not understand why an IB WE cock with a IB hen is throwing yellow chicks like the one in this photo.

I fully expected a pea chick from an IB WE cock and an IB hen to hatch out the same as a chick from the IB pairing. Does the WE make that much difference? I have had 2 hatch from the pair so far and both are yellow. I find it interesting and confusing.

Well I'll try to say something that will make sense lol.

My neighbor once had a Cochin rooster who came from black and blue parents, but his momma had some hidden genetics for the red color. Maybe that's sorta what happened to the peachicks?

Found an answer from Yoda that makes sense. I knew if I read enough I may find it but it just took me a bit of looking.....

Quote from Yoda on another pea baby thread going on here on BYC..... "Black shoulder chicks look white when they hatch but as the start to get feathers growing in the dark feathers start to show. If you look closely at the wing feathers they should look a little cream color. Chick 6 on page 4 is a BS and chick 8 on page 5 is also a black shoulder so you can see that they do look white. All the first hatches upo to chick 6 that are white are white not BS as I thought they were. All chicks from the pair BS peacock with a BS shoulder hen (the picture above is a IB BS hen) will give you all BS chicks and the other pair BS to IB hen will give you all IB chicks split BS."

That answered my question. Good ol' Yoda! Thanky, thanky!
