Ok I know you get alot of emails regarding legs, and i cant figure this one out so hopefully with your knowledge we will find a cure!!
I have a peachick that is 3 weeks old, has been doing great, up untill about 4 days ago. As this is my first shot at raising peafowl i am determined to get him better!
Thanks you so much for all the help and support you guys have given me, it is VERY much appreciated, with using all the comments and information you have given me I have found it is most likely 1 of 3 problems. (although i am dumbfounded as he doesnt fit any of them) so here goes:
1) Slipped tendon:
If it was slipped tendon it seems he would have his knee would swell and get hot, his leg would shrink and he would be unable to walk. Well he can walk and even run just with a limp, he can fully stretch his leg out by himself, his hock joint is not swelling or hot to touch?? and the tendon feels in place...
2) From too much protein:
If it was from too much protein that they grow to quickly and they get lag problems with the extra weight gain. He is on turkey starter crumbles and has always been, i was giving him 1 boiled egg yolk per day, but now have stopped the egg and for treat he only gets lettuce (which has no protein).
3) Splayed leg:
For the first two weeks he was kept in a glass tank with lucerne chaff (horse food) on the bottom, and I didnt relize but he was slipping on it so it could be a splayed leg. Now i have changed the bedding to hay which he can grip on. The problem is i treid the hobble method but his leg is fine untill it reaches the knee then it just twists outward, so as much as i hobbled him it didnt work as the leg twists out so the hobble just pulled his knee into his other leg.
He is fine in himself and is eating and drinking alot, btu the leg issue is annoying me more then him.
That is all the info i have gathered and assessed so far but i havea new problem it seems that he could have a TWISTED TIBIA?? Has anyone had this problem/ found a solution, i relize if he as this problem i cantr use him for breeding but thas ine he is only as a pet anyways!?!
