I built a pen outside for my 6 week old peachicks. It is enclosed on 3 sides and they have been in it for a week. Since it has been in the mid 90's every day I though surely they didn't need any heat, especially during the day, but when I turn the light out they cry pitifully. It is a 75 watt light bulb hanging about 20 inches off the floor in a corner.

Are they just resistant to change, or do they really need the extra heat?

If they are crying as soon as you turn the light out, they're probably just making the pitiful lost noise because they can't see you or whatever "mom" is anymore (or feel it). Mine did this every night (and I'm a sucker and ended up cuddling them under my chin until they fell asleep...
