I will weigh him in a few minutes when I give him fluids again. Do I keep up the fluids for the 5 days on Baytril? If so, how many times/day does he get fluids? Do I offer food and water tomorrow? I will have to keep him closely confined because he has never been handled before today- don'tthink I 'll catch him after this!

It has not expired, she was on it recently for a month and only used half a bottle.

He weighs right at 10 pounds. Think I'll play it safe and check the math in the AM, and get him started then!
He is still holding his head up! Yeah!
I have to fix him a bigger confinement tomorrow.

In post #16 Kathy said to give 0.2 ml per pound. I would give a ten pound bird 2.0ml and I would not wait until morning.

I think I would offer food and water to him but make sure you can monitor to see how much he is eating/drinking. Anything he can get down on his own would probably be beneficial.
How bout mashing up a boiled egg and moistening it? Eggs are pretty complete nutrition wise.
I don't think I would go with any hard dry food yet.

Yes do it now, don't wait! He needs meds now, plus fluids.

I think when my bird was severely dehydrated the vet said fluids at least every 2 1/2 hours at first but an adult might be different?

If he would drink on his own that would be good but I don't know how weak he is. Oh Nother thing, do NOT leave water without you monitoring it, as he could be weak enough he would drown in it overnight.

If you can, bring him in house overnight, he needs to stay warm as he can't regulate body temps right now.

@Ersika , if he's tolerating the 60 ml you could try giving more at one time. 60 ml is what I start off with, but I try to increase it to 120 ml for birds his size. He should get that every 4-6 hours as long as his crop clears. If you're giving less, probably okay to give every couple of hours.

I would not give ivermectin or Prohibit, and I would only give Safeguard after fluid therapy.

Agreed i bet he has a bad case of worms, a spindly or a missing crest is a sure sign of that IMO

I am with Zaz on that. My concern is the toxicity level of the dying worms getting too high for the bird to handle. Hopefully the antibiotics will help with that.

Some people may disagree, but when I can't take them to the vet for a proper diagnosis, I use the shotgun approach, which means I treat for all things peafowl are most likely to get (coccidiosis, worms, blackhead and enteritis). Most of the time I get lucky, but once this year I did not, though that loos could have been avoided if I have paid attention to my "sick peafowl sense" and treated the moment I saw he was off.
