In one breeding pen I have my pied split to peach male and 2 hens - a white and a pied. The white has laid 8 eggs so far and not one is fertile! The pied hen wants to get away from the peacock and in doing so hurt her foot on the wire (the metal band got caught and she was hanging there til I got home from work - Lord knows for how long) also the white wants to move out as well cause the pied peacock is just so mean to them. He struts his stuff but when the female comes near he chases them off. The white is due to lay again tomorrow. Will he ever breed this year? Should I just take the females out? I have eggs from the charcoal in there and every one is fertile. My charcoal, I watched breed with my last blue hen split to charcoal a few days ago - That excited me LMAO!
The first set of eggs due to hatch are from the hen I lost and are fertile and looking good but I do not know who the father is yet because they were all in the shed together and not seperated. HOPEFULLY the charcoal is the daddy. Guess we will see when they hatch. The other hen is the purple one and she too is laying every couple days and her eggs are fertile as well.
