Peacock with Black Spotted Chest

(this text didn't post on my original post) Hi everyone, we have an almost 1-year-old peacock that was born on our farm last year. I hadn't thought he was pied, but what gives with the black spots on his chest (we have an all-white male and an India Blue male that could have been the father of this young male peacock). Or is it just immature coloring? Thanks in advance for any insight on this!

It's just his immature coloring. My yearling also has a white chest. I don't have a very good picture of it though. Mostly in my pictures he is trying to peck the camera...

OK thanks much. So our India Blue peacock was the dominant one last year. Our White didn't father any babies. We just lost our India Blue a month ago to an unknown cause, and got another India Blue. Our White is now the Big Man on Campus so perhaps we will have some pied babies this year.

The white males hardly if at all get to mate unless if they are the only peacock in the pen or the only one free-ranging. Peahens prefer the colorful males. What kind of peahens do you have? If you breed a white to an India Blue you get split to white birds (they will have white flight feathers and maybe white on their throat). To get pied peafowl you can breed a white to a pied, or a dark pied (split to pied) to a white.

Did your India Blue get killed by something or did he get sick? I have had raccoons kill an adult peacock before, but that peacock was penned. Also you have to make sure you worm the peafowl if you don't already. I just have to say that because I had a lady buy a peacock from me once and when I mentioned worming the peafowl she didn't know what I was talking about so I had to explain.

What do the hens look like? Your birds in the first picture have throat latches on the necks. Do you have any pictures of the parents or your adult birds including the one you lost that you can post here?

They do have white throat latches? To me it looks like the male is just still getting color on his neck and the India Blue peahen looks normal to me. Am I missing something?

I wonder how the girls would like a purple and pink train on a peacock? i have the die, i might give it a try, wouldn't be hard to do, i use to keep a deaf white cat i had kept dyed pink all his life, once i died him blue before he shead all the pink and he was two toned purple and pink, loved that cat.

The last poodle we had we would get circular sponges and put Easter egg dye on the sponges and sponge on colorful poka dots onto the dog. I know there have been some studies done where they have taken free-range peacocks at the LA county Arboretum and Botanical Garden and put white or black stickers on all of their train feathers then they watched all the peacocks to see who got to mate more and which stickers worked for or against the birds. It sounds like it would be a neat experiment to dye a train.
