MJ's little flock

What a gorgeous view!

35C is a bit hot. Is it humid too?

I never travel for holidays, home is the perfect restful environment for me. Also, I do a bit of travelling for work. I'm off to Lisbon in a few weeks.
That’s a long journey for you MJ.
great place to visit though.

Mary is by herself in the run, so I opened a mini can of corn kernels for her.

She's enjoying them but it's taking her a long time to eat them up. For each kernel, she checks her safety, looks closely at the kernel, aims carefully, misses, and aims again before picking it up. It's a very slow process. One minute per kernel or thereabouts.

Oh dear. Poor Mary. Is old age beginning to slow her down MJ?

I hope this is only temporary and she will get more energy as soon as spring comes in, down under.

My oldest, Ini mini had periods since last winter when she was slowing down a lot but she managed to come out of it again. I helped her a bit with extra fruits, seeds, mealworms and such whenever I find her alone. She starts to look really old and I know she wont live forever.

Im looking forward to see how she and the rest of the flock are doing.
Today we enjoy the local public swimming pool near the guest house. Tomorrow we are heading home.

Wishing you and Mary all the best!

Now that Sarah's no longer attracting Mel's pecks, her assertiveness is growing - so much she's started harrassing Mary whose vision and mobility are not what they once were. Mary's been going to roost with a half empty crop for about a week while I waited for them to sort it out for themselves. Today she was so listless, she spent most of the day sitting down.

So I've intervened. Until I see Mary feeling a little more energetic, she will be staying in the run at dinner time and Sarah will be out until Mary's roosted. I don't mind if one or two of Mary's friends stay in with her, as long as she's free to fill up before roosting.
It's very good that you noticed Mary's situation. She is lucky to have you in her corner.
