PEACOCKS DROPPING TAIL FEATHERS

No I don't worm them, I never thought that they needed to be wormed. Where would I pick that kinda stuff up? All my chickens got killed by raccoons.

I never knew about worming either...learnt from BYC. What color is their poo? When my peas got sick I did a dose of corid then safeguard.

and sorry for your loss.

Most of my peacocks are dropping their trains except my charcoal, he hasn't started yet. My 2 whites lost theirs and my silver pied only has a few left. My BS and IB split BS and white has some left. I know it is about the time they drop them but the thing is we hat 2 long heatwaves back to back and the females stopped laying eggs but now that the temp is perfect they are starting to lay again. I got 5 eggs over the weekend. Hmmm wonder if my charcoal can handle a bunch of hens

I will put them in the incubator to see if they are fertile.

If you're in the US, fenbendazle 10% (Safeguard or Panacur, liquid or paste) can be found at most feed stores in the cattle, goat and horse sections. My mature males get 3ml and my hens get 2ml by mouth and again in ten days.

Please explain this stage in the peacocks life. I'm new to this and my mature male lost all his tail feathers about 1 month ago when his off-spring were about 1 month old. This is the first set of children he has had (4) and the first for his mate. As for the colors? I do not know how to tell. PeaDiddy is a blue and Lady Gaga is a purple. I would appreciate any education in these subjects. Ebe

Not sure what your question is, ebe?
The fellas lose their train feathers every year after breeding season and grow in new trains before the next year's breeding season.
If you have basic pea questions, you might take a browse through the stickies (see below).
And, by the way,

I need new everything,in this old house and the weather has put our building on hold cause we have to have a really big and high pad for the building itself cause our place floods after 3 days of rain. and of course to save money we are doing that part ourselves cause 200 loads of dirt would cost more than the building.

Kuntrygirl. I did a double take when I saw your picture. I thought someone had posted a picture of my boys. Look exactly the same..dumb question coming. Are they IndiaBlue? Do they have black shoulder pattern? When my boys were born- hatched I had two cocks. One was an IndiaBlue that disappeared. The other , I was told was a Spaulding cross. He had a white throat and now I am pretty sure he is the sire of my two white peas. I am trying to learn colors and such.. My hens are really being a challenge to know what is what. The boys looked like mine sitting in the shed. Best, Judy of fur and many feathers.

Yes, they are India Blue. I don't think they have a BS pattern. I got the boys from an old man a couple years ago who had tons of peas.

He acted lethargic for about a week and was not eating as much. I had a peahen die a couple weeks back thinking she was egg bound but now I think she was displaying the same symptoms. Maybe it was something I fed them? I am always giving them leftover fruits and veggies. Is there anything they are supposed to not eat? maybe they caught something from the raccoon that killed my chickens? I really don't know but I was so depressed I had to take a depression pill and have a lay down.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I get very depressed when I lose an animal as well. It's hard. I always cry. My depression usually lasts for days but it never totally goes away. It hurts to lose an animal.
