Considering your level of knowledge about peafowl, I would recommend that you start with chicks after reading all the peafowl topics in the 'Stickies' section.

We purchased 30 eggs from 7 sellers last year. Really had us excited. We got no PEACHICKS. The sellers don' t guarantee they are fertilized.
It isn't necessarily that the eggs were not fertile but the shipping of pea eggs is very hard on them. They scramble easily and most times the air sack is beyond repair, starting but never developing. Even when not shipped and under the best of circumstances, the normal hatch rate for even the best of hatcheries is around 40%. When I was getting started one of our BYC'ers sent me six eggs and I was lucky to get one to hatch.

This year I had the best hatching rate ever at almost 45% and hatched out over 500 chicks. I will set my sights much lower next year...
