Peafowl for 2013

Lockdown for my 4 little ole pea eggs is this weekend. I have not candled and will not. I"m not good at candling. I guess I'll wait and see. :/

Also have guinea and turkey eggs in there with them.

:fl  for you! Are you excited?

Uh, I'm too tired to know if I'm excited or not. I tried to count the number of babies that have been hatched so far this year and this is what I have counted so far. I may be off by 1 or 2 but my records show this. Sometimes I forget to write on the calendar and forget to post pics on BYC but this is what I recall.

Poults - 47 hatched
Gosling - 26 hatched
Keets - 15 recentely hatched
Chickens - Got 50 free chicks. Don't even ask. There was a promotion at a feed store. If you bought (1) 50 lb bag of feed, you got 10 free chicks. Dummy me, who always gets suckered in to getting something for free) bought 5 bags of feed. Do the math. :barnie

And have about 10 turkey eggs under chickens, 20 guinea eggs under hens and 15 goose eggs under chickens, turkeys and ducks.

And then of course the eggs in the incubator.

With a full time job and being the only person responsible for all of this in addition to the other 300+ animals, i'm physically exhausted. :/ I feel my body shutting down from exhaustion. But to answer your question, I guess I'm excited? :/ I can't wait to see if the pea eggs hatch.

Ok. Correction. It looks like lock down is not until June 1. Seems like it's been longer than that. I'll have to check my calendar at home to make sure that's what I have. I think so but want to be sure. So, I still have some time.

Good news! Last night we candled the ten eggs that we put in the incubator on Mother's Day and *all * have veins! Have five more that I put under a broody Cochin that I'll candle Wednesday and three plus any that get laid tonight will go under another broody tomorrow.

If you go by the 28 day hatch, mine are do on 6-9, 6-12 and 6-18.

This will be my second year with pea eggs and my first year with an incubator, so it's very exciting for me!

I guess we should get started on building a proper brooder for them, don't want a repeat of last year.

Congrats! Please be careful with the egg under the cochin, she might not site on the egg the whole time. I read here how the chicken stopped sitting almost at the end and the person lost the pea egg :(  I am so happy for you ;)

A pea egg is the only egg that I WOULD NOT put under my chickens. They are SO unreliable, although have been doing great lately, because as they play musical nesting boxes, I have been moving the eggs when they move. My chickens are to unreliable. :/ Good luck with that.

Thank God for hardwood floors! You should have seen my living room yesterday... Left the door open and five of the six yearling peas were on the sofa, the TV and the window sills!

No picture... was too worried that Mike would walk in and freak out, so I had to eject them. I do have a picture somewhere of Green-P on the TV, I'll have to find it, lol. Cannot recommend large peas in the house, way too much poop!
