Peafowl questions

I would like his contact info, but as I said before I can't get any this year. How much did you pay for them? I guess I will look at some breeders and decide who I will be buying from next year. KsKingBee, are you going to be selling any peafowl next spring?

I will still be selling this years hatch but the colors and patterns available will be more limited than they are now as we sell a lot of birds all year round. With almost 300 chicks from ten different colors and five different patterns, it takes a bit to sort out what is available. We are also selling some breeders as we bring in new breeding stock.

I might be able to buy a pair of peafowl this year. How much room will they need? We did not set up the main runs on our second coop yet so the only place I would be able to keep them is in a section of my chicken coop, the inside section is 4x8 and the outside is 8x12. That is 96 square feet of run space and 32 square feet of coop space. I do not think that will be enough room for them though. I think I read 200 square feet per pair or something like that...

Edit: Nvm, juveniles can stay in smaller pens for the first two years if I remember correctly. If I have enough room in that section to hold 2 or 3 birds till next spring then I might buy 2 or 3 birds from you this October or November, I will need to talk about it with my family first though.

Idealy 100 to 150sf per bird is about right, current years hatch and yearlings can be kept in smaller areas but will need more space as they grow.

So do you think a pair or trio of juveniles could live in that area until next spring when the main pens are done? If not then I will have to wait till next spring to get them. Also, I was talking about the dog kennel in the original post, I might be able to keep them in there. Problem with that is there are two dogs in it ATM, they were going to be moved out next spring into the new kennel so that area would not be available until next spring.

I would not put more than two 2018 hatch birds in that small of an area, and would definitely have more space for them by spring. Contact me through Spring Creek Peafowl on FaceBook.
