So I’m starting a small farm in a huge backyard in the city. My city has little to no limits on the species of livestock able to be kept as long as they are kept in proper husbandTy standards. I’m dreaming of peafowl but I know several news articles show them being hated by neighborhoods. I’ve talk to several of my neighbors about how loud they can be and some assume they are only loud during the mating season and that female peafowl are quieter or at least more doable. Is any of this true? Is it poss to keep a male in a large garage enclosure with high perches during spring and have an aviary for him and his flock off season? my neighbors don’t have an issue with roosters, guineas, geese or turkeys but probably because they could never vocally compare to a lovesick pea, huh?😂

At the top of the Peafowl index, there are some threads called 'Stickies', they are links to the most basic information for all things peafowl. That is the best place to get quick answers. When planning on your coop and run figure 150 sq ft per bird. Depending on where you live, (you did not fill out your profile) housing requirements may dictate a closed coop or you may be able to have an open coop for winter.

During the breeding season, April through August, the cocks can be loud, how loud is determined by how many you have and how close they are to the houses. With over 500 peas here the sound does not bother us but it could annoy neighbors if I had any.

Would it be wise to keep the boys indoors for the breeding season to contain their noise?
