Peafowl Standards

"The Indian peafowl was one of the many species originally described by Linnaeus in his work, Systema Naturae, in 1758 and it still bears its original name of Pavo cristatus.[3] The Latin genus name Pavo and the Anglo-Saxon pawe (from which the word "peacock" is derived) are believed to be echoic in their origin and based on the usual call of the bird. The species name cristatus refers to the crest.[4]"

I think maybe for the standard use like a picture of the actual color or pattern and descried why it's this color. Also define Spalding and Splits and show some Splits and Spaldings. Like MinxFox's peafowl variety chart. but with real peafowl and a description of each color and breed. Just a small handbook I guess you could call it.

If anyone wants to provide me with written explanations about, or definitions of, colors/patterns for the database, I'll post 'em (after they've been reviewed by the PeaGroup of course).

Anything wrong with the ones the UPA already has approved?

Well...
1. Not sure that it would be OK to lift that info from the UPA website without permission?
2. Not sure if our PeaGroup would agree on the accuracy of all of their definitions? (ie the ever-controversial Silver Pied)
3. Very few of the color/patterns actually have definitions or descriptions there, and,
4. I don't know anything about colors/patterns [this is where I would put the embarrassed and blushing icon if there was one] and would need someone else to give me the go-ahead for any given color/pattern description.

I hope that the Image Database is going to be a valuable resource, and lots of people have already made an effort to contribute images.
The fact is that I am just not knowledgeable enough to make executive decisions about the information that is included on the website.
I don't want to post inaccurate information, because then it won't be helpful to anyone.
So I would certainly appreciate any instruction or suggestions! Don't forget I'm only the "mechanic" of the database, definitely not the "brains"!
