Peafowl With Butt Wound

When Peep displays Alto likes to kick him in the behind to make him stop. Often Peep notices Alto walking up and stops displaying, but sometimes Alto is able to sneak up on Peep and kick him. I never saw any harm in it. I know that they have a ton of fluffy butt feathers and I figured Alto was just trying to say "Stop displaying in my pen!" I kind of thought it was funny

Today when Peep was displaying I noticed he has a wound right next to his butt hole. The wound is about the size of a nickel. It does look recent - perhaps yesterday or early today. Peep doesn't seem to be bothered by it and it didn't look like a deep wound to me. I tried to get a photo but he stopped displaying. Of course I am sure it was Alto who kicked Peep in the butt and it must be a spur or a nail wound...Probably spur.

So should I just monitor the wound to make sure it is healing well? Do I need to put anything on the wound? I don't know how I would get to it haha. From what I saw it just looked like the top layer of skin had been scraped, so it was like the equivalent of a skinned knee from what I saw, but I can't say I got a very good look.

I would just keep an eye on it, it will heal pretty fast on it's own.

I agree with Zaz, keep an eye on it.

If you start seeing it get more red, or inflammed, or swollen, or pussy, you can treat then. Or if he starts looking "off" somehow....

I hope he is okay! I would spray Blu Kote on the wound to keep it from getting infected and so that your other peafowl do not potentially pick on the wound (if you think Peep isn't). My opal peahen had a wound and I sprayed Blu Kote on it, so her blue tongue clearly showed she actually was picking on it even though I thought otherwise at first.

Today it was rainy all day and all the peas were up on the high roosts under the shelter. I wasn't able to get a look at Peep's butt. He seemed fine just chillin' there with the others. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to check on his butt boo boo.

The proposed green peafowl pen might have to be what I originally intended it to be - a pen for Peep and whatever peahen I want to pair with him.

I don't want to get my boys hurt by being housed together. I will see how things go and then make a decision from there. My hope is that Peep has learned to be more careful around Alto to prevent future harmful kicks in the butt.

I personified my peafowl a while ago, and did some drawings of what I think each one would look like as a person. To me Alto would be a really tough man with a beard and he always pushes around Peep and Frosty. Maybe he would have a tattoo of a peahen on his bicep.

how old is peep now?

This year around when school gets out for the summer is when he will turn four years old. I can't remember the exact date, but I know that when I was in high school he hatched out on the last day of school making it an extra awesome last day of school.
