Hello,

So I am a new to the peafowl. Just recently i bought 2 females 1 male. I am a little scared of these beautiful birds and would like some help in learning about them. When they first came they were a little scared but now they are coming out of their house a bit more each time i go out. I try and go out the same time everyday and try to say the same thing to them hoping they would take to me better. They are still not trusting enough for me to touch them, so what can i do to work for their trust?

Congratulations on your new journey.
Earning the trust of your peas will take time, how much will depend on the birds but either way they are not likely to want to be petted like a dog or even a parrot, instead they will sit by you, eat from your hands and not run off when you approach, being in a pen seems to make it harder to earn their trust and i have learned this over the last 4 years as they are prey animals and feeling cornered their instincts kicks in and they want to get away but can't .

All my birds are free to come and go as they please no pens for them unless they are injured or wee babies so they are very friendly.

,My birds from last years hatch are imprinted on people and they can be a pain in the butt when we are trying to do something cause they think we need their help

Ask any questions you may have and read the stickies , they are very helpful also.

This is about all i can pet my peas but they got no problem with taking things out of my pockets, apron and camera bag.
