Peahen and peacock not getting along that great...

Sometimes it's just personality too. My adult IB male whom I have had going on 7 years (he's 10) still doesn't let anyone come close to him even though he knows me pretty well. I don't try to be super buddy buddy because I don't want my birds to tame but my Midnight BS bird is only 4 and I've had him for a year and he's already much much tamer than the IB.

Hello I am fairly new to peafowl. Two years ago i bought a chick and he is now a 2 year old Indian Blue. He took off on me about 3 months ago and i finally caught him about 2 weeks ago. So i went out and bought him a year old hen. At first she seemed like she wanted to stay near hi until he would peck at her. She is extremely skittish and he was really skittish when he was young (they are from the same guy). Since my cock has been home he seems less afraid of me. So I have a few questions
1. How can I calm her down? I plan to do treats everyday but she won't even ea them if i toss them near her, she just runs away.
2. How can I get my hen and cock to become closer.
I clipped my cocks wings (until i read you should only clip one) and he still escaped..again, but i got him back within 12 hours.
3. How high can they jump/fly with a clipped wing?
i plan on fencing in your yard and letting our peafowl and chickens roam more freely but i want to make sure the fence is high enough to keep my birds in.
4. Are there any really good books on EVERYTHING to know about raising peafowl?
5. Does anybody have pictures of their peafowl enclosures, or set ups, roosts/nest boxes they'd love to share?
THanks! Katt

Besides the predator aspect, another reason not to clip the roosters wings, is that it can affect your fertility rates. Unlike chickens, peacocks must mate in full fan because they obviously cannot tuck their train under and this requires an incredible amount of balance so he must put the tips if each wing on the ground to help maintain his center of gravity. Just another pointer to help ya out,

Thank you that is a great point about the balance. The entire roof is now closed off and i even made the run bigger. it looks really ghetto but whatever it works! He's starting to get closer now and so is my hen. Every time my daughter goes for a name i go out with fruits and veggies and call their names and toss them a treat. my chickens are even friendly! This is how i wanted my birds from the beginning lol. Trying to teach them their name too. that's why im calling their name and then they get the treat!
