I'm pretty sure KKB had what he needed on hand, however as his post stated it was Christmas and he had to be away at a family gathering( perfectly understandable), so he was not there to administer any corid, sulfa or oregano oil. These things happen, and as much as we care for our birds there are times when family takes precedence. I too spent last night with family and would not have been changing my plans for a droopy Pea.

Thank you DM, Kathy, and ZAZ. I try to not let the things that have been laid before upset me, I believe that all things happen for a purpose and that we learn from them and strive to do better. This one is tough for me because of the loss of genetics, the history of the birds, the sweetness of her personality, and that she was dependent upon me for her care.

I knew what the problem was, I knew what meds she needed, and I knew how to save her. It was totally my responsibility and I failed her. My only consolidation is that I still have her parents and the hope that this year they will bless me with another PeanelliPea. Hopefully, @deerman (Burt) will not hold it against me.

Something to think about if you still have her body... The first two I lost to blackhead both had negative fecals, so you might want to necropsy her to rule that out.

@KsKingBee , just wondering if you had the Purple BS family on any kind of preventative meds for Cocci ? I have brought new birds into my flock from 4 different sources over the past 2 months. This is pretty unprecedented for me, but it needed to be done because we needed some new blood and unrelated birds. I do quarantine all the newcomers and while in quarantine they are wormed and put on the preventative dose of Corid, they are also watched very closely. The craziness of the past 3 days as well as some pretty heavy rain kept me from spending much time with my birds and reading your sad news got me out for an extended visit to the barns today. Knowing my soil is Cocci rich, I generally worry more about the new birds getting sick than I do about them passing something to my homegrown ones. I was relieved to see that everyone appears to be healthy and has a good appetite. I second Trefoils opinion that this was a really Crappy Christmas "gift" for you. After this you deserve NOTHING but good things for the new year!

Don't beat yourself up, even if you had given her round the clock care there, is a very good chance she would not have made it. You are doing all the right things with fecals, meds on hand and tube feeding, which is more than most are able to do.
