I couldn’t get my big, reliable Maran to stay on the nest, so I looked at my other 7 (!!) broodies, and tried a couple, and they all refused to stay. I then went to the smallest yet more reliable ones… the Sebright.
She has 8 eggs under her. That’s almost all she can fit under herself. I was hoping to do 10 or more eggs… but that’s all I can do for now.

The others had permission to reserve an egg in advance for various reasons… like their egg didn’t make it for this HAL, so I let them pick one for next time.

Speckles, Kiwi, and Moonshine.

Update!

We gave Moonshine away to a family looking for a friendly cockerel. He has his own flock now. He’s doing well at his new home.

Speckles is a handsome big boy now. Very tall.

Kiwi somehow ended up as a Music Onyx/Southern Rambler…

Literally looks exactly like some Southern Rambler cockerels I had last year.
