Peanut’s Adopt-An-Egg Hatch-A-Long

Today...

I opened the coop door to let Peanut out for a few minutes. Usually she is off the nest for 10-15 minutes. I have heard it is okay for the broody to be off the nest for up to an hour.


The wind shut the door, and by the time I went to check on her, she had been off the nest for about two hours. She is back on the nest, but the eggs were cold to touch.

My question is: do the eggs still have a chance??

I had a egg under a broody and she was off it a whole night I put it back under her when I found it and it was alive the next time I candled.

Ask me again on the fifteenth. It hasn't hatched yet but it was obviously moving today when I candled it.

I am going to be doing a very similar thread to the one @Lemon-Drop made recently. (thanks for the idea!)

I have 8 eggs under my tiny broody hen, Peanut.

Lemon-Drop had much more eggs but this is all that could fit under Peanut!

1 Blue egg (from the Cochin X EE), a few bantam eggs, and a Delaware or Maran egg.

We are hatching these eggs upon a customer’s request.
They want pullets so we will have to keep all the cockerels and give them the pullets that hatch. I have no idea what I got myself into, lol.

Sorry, all the eggs are taken now.
Egg 4 was actually discarded yesterday because it didn’t develop at all.

Good idea! The chicks are not for me (well, I have to keep the cockerels but a customer is getting the pullets), so I’m not sure that the customers will keep the names, but we can definitely do that if everyone is okay with it!

Not yet.

I had 3 EE eggs, only needed 1 to collect, the brand new nesting box pads I bought today fell over on the egg carton, & smashed an EE egg, so I have 2 to collect.
I have 2 Silkie eggs, so 4 more to go before I can set them.

Let me know when you set them!
