Peanut’s Adopt-An-Egg Hatch-A-Long

I am really.. really sorry.

Today I candled the eggs.. all are showing signs of development except number 4, the blue egg.

Looks like a yolk. All the eggs have veins except this egg.
Should I scrap it? Peanut needs more space under there- I’m not sure that she’s incubating all the eggs evenly.

Do y’all know if I should scrap the egg or not?

They have been under the broody for over a week- closer to 2 weeks I believe.
Do what you think is best.

Candled again today, and the blue egg seemed infertile to me. There was a dark spot but no veins, so I thought it was the yolk or something else.

I took my gut instinct and cracked open the egg.

:yesss:No embryo!
In a way, I am sad that it was not fertile, but I am happy that I didn't kill a possible chick.

All the other eggs are developing well with veins!

Today...

I opened the coop door to let Peanut out for a few minutes. Usually she is off the nest for 10-15 minutes. I have heard it is okay for the broody to be off the nest for up to an hour.

The wind shut the door, and by the time I went to check on her, she had been off the nest for about two hours. She is back on the nest, but the eggs were cold to touch.

My question is: do the eggs still have a chance??

I would still try, but the hatch rate will definitely go down a lot.

Do you have an incubator? Since this is a hatch for someone else, you may want to get a few more eggs going just in case.

Nope. Don't have an incubator. I have another broody, which I was going to set very soon for yet ANOTHER customer, but I will not be setting her until I come back from vacation next week. Leaving for vacation tomorrow morning.
I don't want to set another one because I just don't want my brother and his wife (they will be taking care of the chickens when we're gone) to have extra work and "klopot". Lol. That's a slavic word- Couldn't think of the english word.

Thanks for the input.

Have another broody hen. Guess I won’t need to get the incubator running after all. She is a vicious one! Pecks super hard.View attachment 3098185
Yay!
I have one like that too! I started bleeding a couple times from her!

Ah. Well, if the temperature was decent, the eggs probably wouldn’t be as affected. Sounds like it was a pretty chilly day though.

The eggs were cold, but the weather itself was not very chilly. Probably chillier than most other states, but it's in the mid 50s/early 60s today (F).
