Peanut Butter

Oh dear- Then I change my mind about the "spread on bread thinly" remark!!!

I spread PB on apples and hang them in the run for entertainment with a little protein added. Some of my chickens HATE the PB, but others really like it. I cover the apple with PB and roll it in oats. Keeps em occupied in the winter when the ground is all snow covered

That is a really good idea!! Mine don't care for apples, is that odd?

Even if you step on the apple to split it open so they can get to the good stuff?

PB&J crusts/sandwiches that you are making for your kids (kindergartners) at school are not having enough PB on them that a kid or chicken is going to choke. If your kid isn't eating the crusts it's probably because the PB&J isn't on the outside anyway. We put it in the coop all the time. If you are really worried about it and don't want good food to go to waste, throw it on a baking pan and toast it up a bit to make it more crispy... PB will soak into bread and you'll be all set.

You could always mix it half and half with yogurt. I make stuff for my dogs out of pb, yogurt and mashed bananas and then freezer them in hollow bones. You can mix it up for the chickens and either roll it in seed or just put it on bread or something.

Mine have eaten a whole peanut butter and banana sandwich before and I also give them pb on a pine cone with seeds like I do for other birds in the winter. They love it.

I cut them up, gave them to them whole and they still didn't eat them!?! They don't care for lettuce either... a head or tore off... Silly birds anyway!!

Mine typically only like the apples smashed into millions of pieces (so I step on each one before I put it in their run) the mushier the better they told me

Their coop and run is under an apple tree in the middle of our orchard so apples fall around them all the time but they won't go after them unless they are smashed.
