I was with my chickens earlier, and happened to notice a bald spot on one. It had a dirty scab over it. I removed the scab, puss and some feathers around it. Is there anything else I should do? She is at the bottom of the pecking order. Here are some pictures:

She is currently on my deck, panting and trying to jump on the rails.

Blu-Kote if you have it, neosporin without pain relief will also work. Do you have roosters?

Wait...what are those black things on her feathers? Could it be mites? Have you checked your other birds to see if they have this as well?

We have one rooster and four other hens. Our rooster is generally gentle, and we don't think he can see very well. The black stuff is soil, our run has some damp dirt and she dust bathes a lot.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm just wondering how your girl came out on this. Did you use blu-kote? how long did it take her to heal??? I have a similar wound in my 6 week old and I'm a newbie. Thanks!!!
