I collected an egg today that looked like someone tried to peck open the end. It didn't look like they got to the actual egg part so they haven't "tasted" egg yet. There is plenty of food and water. They are free ranged so they get a lot of protein. Is there anything I can do to prevent egg pecking/eating before it really starts?

usually when they try to eat the eggs its a grit problem. or calcium... plus protein. occasionally boredom, try giving them some oyster shells

Whew! I don't think the egg was pecked afterall. What a relief. I found on some other posts that they can crack if there is not enough bedding in the nest. Duh!! I added bedding and it has not happened again. Thanks everyone!
