We have six Rhode Island Red Hens and ONE Modern Game Hen. The RIRs we raised since they were baby chicks, the other we got a couple of months ago. We've noticed that the alpha roo seems to have a favorite hen. She stays by his side and doesn't allow for the other hens to linger too long around him. She seems to pick mostly on the game hen, but we've also noticed that ALL of the RIRs do this. Eventually the roo will settle the matter between them all, and the GM comes back and mingles with them but this happens almost every day. Is this just their pecking order? Should we intervene or just let it be? I don't want them picking on her to the point that she won't ever lay eggs or be broody. She's supposed to be one of the broodier breeds, so I want to keep her happy so that she does her job well. Any suggestions?

Well, I don't have alot of experience but what I have noticed is that the odd girl out usually get picked on. RIR are the worst about being dominant. When my odd bird begins to lay the picking gets better but the Reds are still grumpy sometimes especially when food is involved or the perch
