pecking?? True or False?

Hmmm? Those are good questions. I haven't gotten that far in chicken raising, but someone more experienced I'm sure will answer that for you.

People use Blue Kote to cover wounds. It's an antiseptic, covers the wound so out of sight. If excessive pecking persists it's a sign that your chickens don't have enough room or you've one really weak bird. Try more roosting areas and if old enough hanging greens for them to peck at to keep busy. Some people hang a cabbage in their run.

Any bird with serious injuries should be separated until healed or will be bullied. I had a rooster that got his leg broken. He stayed in coop for first few days and all was well then he decided to hop into the pen one morning, I figured he made his choice he was well enough...few hours latter he was a bloody mess so was put in a grow out coop for few weeks laying next to the main run.

I'm having that same issue with full grown hens. One of my barred rocks has become a bully to another barred rock, and only that one. I've removed the bully hen to an isolation area, out of sight from the others. I was told to do this for a few days and then introduce her back in with the hopes that the pecking order will have changed since she was removed forcing her to start in the lower rung of the order. Everyone seems to have had success with this, but we'll see. The bully was constantly terrorizing the other, injuring her comb and ear lobe to the point of blood. I covered it with blue kote but it didn't seem to matter to the bully, she continued her relentless attacks anyway. Hope this works. If it doesn't, i'm not sure what else to do. I'm making an addition to their run for extra room but I really don't think space is an issue and it didn't matter how much food they had in their run to peck at, the tormenting was continual.

That's great advice!

Yes it is very true. If a chicken has an open wound, other chickens will peck at it. They do have an anti-peck cream stuff that you can put on her. It tastes really bad and other chickens won't like the way she tastes and will stop pecking at the wound. Depending on where the wound is at, I made 'chicken aprons' that cover their back til their feathers grow back in. =]
