Peeling oranges!!!!!

Wow! That's an interesting allergy. Never heard of that one before!

I have eczema on one of my hands (it's weird

) so the juice stings me quite a bit. The skin is usually so hard I poke holes in the orange segments trying to break through the skin

Grew up in FL, in Orange Groves, I am also allergic to the Blossoms themselves, eyes swell up, throat closes.... I had a FUN childhood

I just use the bottom tine of a metal fork. Just use it to cut a "prime meridian" down the orange peel...and up the other side till the whole globe is circumnavigated. Then do it again so you have four lengthwise peel segments, all joining at the navel of the orange, which can all be taken off with your fingers quite easily. I can't remember the last time I peeled an orange with my bare hands.

My father has pretty bad hay fever. I'm sure that's nothing on a full blown allergy though!

See? There you have it-a food preparation utensil, and a weapon...all in one. What more could you ask?
But for me...I am usually in my kitchen when I am eating oranges anyway, so I just help myself to the silverware drawer.

But, Flare.... I just used my thumbnail all the time. I found a trick... just jab in the edge of your fingernail (its stronger that way) by sliding it just a little ways, until it finds a weak spot, and press hard. Then use your thumbnail to pluck out a hole the normal way. Pluck pluck away... and a half hour later you can finally eat your orange.

Why I just drink the best Florida orange juice now... and leave the oranges to other people
