glad to hear she is doing better, can you give her a soak in the tub? warm water and salt added. Salt water can heal things real good, you'll have to make sure she doesn't drink the water but you could also just wash the wound out real good with salt water. how long have you been giving her the antibiotics? don't stop till their all gone alot of folks will say oh she is doing so much better I'll just stop the antibiotics, not good idea. How old is your duck? and what kind of cats are these?

I can try cleaning with salt water; I've cleaned her with soap before and she started drinking the water -___-
I actually just picked up the antibiotics 3 days ago. I won't stop until theyre done! I cant risk her just like that. Well never really know if a ducks okay. They have so much personality it's hard to tell!
She's 7 and a half months old, she's little and looks to me like she can get hurt easily. My husband tries telling me ducks are stronger than we think but I don't like thinking that, if rather protect her myself.

And these cats? I have no idea. They're neighborhood cats.. Theres one tabby, two blacks and one spotted

I don't think I'll bring her home again. She loves being at my moms! And I see her quite often!

that house is like a jungle for her, she hides and explores

How is our patient doing this morning?

I don't see the name of the antibiotic that you are using. I apologize if I overlooked it in your post. Can you tell us the name of the antibiotic, the dosage or milligrams and instructions. Perhaps your duck's story can be used as a learning example for others who may have a similar situation happen in the future. We will know what to do.

Thanks

Thats great if mom is okay with it too. Does she have a pen to put her in at night so something else doesn't get ahold of her? I would suggest getting her a mate [not necessarily opposite sex but a friend, it can get awfully lonely not having a friend]. also if she has to stay locked up at night [which would mean safety for her and peace of mind for ya'll it would be a good idea to put some kind of netting over the top because alot of animals winged and 4 legged can climb in from the top. And don't forget cats and other preds are everywhere and having a place to hide is one thing but predators can find hiding places.I don't mean to scare you just saying not to get over confident that she is safer at your moms. If her wound is looking alot better then don't try soaking her in salt water. just keep an eye on it and give her the antibiotics she should be fine. Thanks for giving us an update.. please do again. Thanks.

Hey! LATE! But with this new life of mine Ive been extremely busy!
Patient: Baby Girl
Emotionally: HAPPY!
Currently: Healed

I cannot find the antibiotics atm but I was told to give her twice a day orally, and put some neosporin ointment on the wound twice a day as well.
I kept her away from dirty things and gave her lots of loving! That is exactly what she needed..
Lots of peace and quietness is also a MUST, and I took that from you guys

She just really wanted to be alone and just sleep.
It took her about 2-3 weeks to heal! which is AMAZING becauseeeeee the vet lady said shed die if she didnt get "surgery"
I am absolutely grateful I didnt take the surgery alternative because I think she WOULD HAVE DIED considering the amount of anesthesia her little body would take

Now shes nibbling away at the GRASS and dirt and little worms and anything she could find!
thank you all for your help, thanks to all shes now a happy little duck

Glad to hear she made it. Nice work!
