I have my choice of some duckings that are pretty different looking. Two drakes (pekin and magpie) and three hens (pekin, magpie and buff orpington) contributed to the nest. Is there any way to predict which if any of the ducklings are pure pekin, pure magpie, or any of the three possible mixes based on color genetics or maybe size? They're about two months old.

Here are the color possibilities to my knowledge:

1. Pekin drake+ Magpie hen
-Black Self Magpie

2. Pekin drake + standard buff Hen (if she is light buff they would all be blue mallard)
-Blue Mallard
-Mallard

3. Magpie Drake + standard Buff Hen (if light buff then all would be blue magpie)
-Blue self magpie
-Black Self Magpie

Obviously the Pekin + Pekin and Magpie + Magpie crosses will give you White and Magpie.

Interesting and very helpful thank you. Two are solid white except for a very very small black spot like a freckle somewhere on them. Pekin, you think? Or just a VERY white take on the magpie pekin x?

The others are all black magpie or some black and blue magpie!

Any idea what color I might get from a blue Swedish drake and magpie duck?

And do I need a blue magpie drake and duck to get blue magpies or will a small percentage of ducklings come out blue from a black and white magpie mating pair?
Thanks!
