Pekin duck attacked (by chicken??)

It doesn't look too bad ,doesn't look infected? How is she acting? eating good? using iodine it should be watered down to look like weak tea. but keep using it or if you can get something called Blue Kote, it has gentian violet in it it is great for healing or another product called Veterycin you might be able to order on line it is another great product that is good for wounds and infections. But even using some warm salty water to wash out the wound then using iodine after should help heal and the wound will heal from the inside out the last thing you will see is the skin growing over top then feathers. If they heal like us humans. Looks like that's exactly what it's doing.
It doesn't seem to be infected its a little yellow but their is no discharge or weeping. She is ravenous, enjoys her bath dries off under the lowered heat lamp. Hasn't been out much as we have had a cold snap and some snow but she seems to be reasonably happy. Unless she is going mad due to solitary confinement but she seems okay.

My dad is still firmly of the opinion that she should be put down but you have reasssured me that I'm not hurting her by giving her a chance to heal so hopefully things continue to get better. Thank you for your advice.

I don't want to cause problems between you and dad I just think since she is eating good and enjoying her bath she must be feeling good and if you care for the wound properly which it sounds like you have and it's not infected. Then she will heal. If you could get some Blue Kote you could spray her real good with that [it works to disguise wounds] we use it alot here if a chicken or other poultry we have gets a wound it keeps the others from seeing the red of a wound which would make them want to eat on it and because it sprays out purple to cover and disguises the wounds. But anyway she could possibly visit her other duck mates with supervision. So they don't forget her. And keep her pen as clean as possible to keep infection down. Your doing a great job and thanks for updating about her.

I'm sure dad is impressed to even if he hasn't said.

Blue Kote doesn't seem to be available outside the US :(

Salt water and very diluted iodine will have to cut it.

I'm in Ireland, its hard to know if things are better or not it is better for some worse for others. It doesn't help that I haven't finished my degree. Had to leave due to ill health and it is expensive to go back. A local meat packing plant is hiring so fingers crossed that they pick my cv out of the pile.

Best wishes for you and the meat packing plant job. I hope you get a job in the office and not the line, working on the line is really tough. Good luck on and best wishes too for getting back into school. A college degree isn't a guarantee of a good job but, it sure helps to keep you out of the low wage hard labor jobs.

I concur. I'm sure he respects the care, attention and, effort you are putting in to taking care of your duck.

Just imagine what he will think when he starts to get grandkids after watching you take care of your duck!

I'm so happy to hear this, just don't let the chickens have another go at her. I bet dads impressed.
