Pekin duck bumble foot/absess? HELP! :(

Hi all

My duck was stupid and walked up the chicken ladders and fell, and somehow cut it's foot. I though it healed up, but now it walking funny, I looked at it, and done some reading on the internet, it am 80% sure its an absess/bumble... the bubble is quite big, I am not sure whether I should be popping it or not? I need something inexpensive as I don't have a lot of extra cash right now!! please help

Well, ducks and people make mistakes. How big is big?

In any case, start with Epsom salts soak or compress. The soak is putting a tablespoon of E.s. in warm water - not hot - in a flat-bottomed bowl, maybe about the size of a cereal bowl. Fill it halfway with the warm water, by the way.

Then hold the duck so that the foot is in the bowl. Then wait. If you can both go five to ten minutes, that is good. Even a few minutes is helpful.

Then wipe the foot and leg with triple-antibiotic ointment (without painkiller). Don't worry about wrapping it at this point.

Keep the duck confined, in a smaller area with clean bedding, fresh water and food. This will slow the duck down a little.

Give poultry vitamins in the water once a week, ideally, to boost the immune system.

Twice a day is best for this treatment. Just before bedtime, put antibiotic ointment on one more time.

Within a couple of days you should notice some improvement.

Is the leg hot? Any other symptoms?

thanks I soaked her foot for a few days, and she is all better the swelling went down, and the golf ball on her foot is gone, thank you!!
