Pekin Duck Club!

:welcome Great place to get information/help. I have a crested jumbo (I think) Pekin. She is about 3 months old. I have a flock of 7, 2 Cayuga, 2 Black Swedish and 3 Pekin, all hens. Again...welcome!! My girls, M
How cute are they! I was thinking of adding new ducklings to my all pekin flock, I wanted some runners but found out they are much smaller and my one Drake can hurt her:( so I was scrolling thru and saw these crested Pekins! Are they about the same size as Pekins

Yes they are the same size. The Jumbo was supposed to be a regular Pekin but she is WAY bigger than my other Pekins and she isn't quite pure white. She is more of a cream color. Someone told me that the jumbos will turn pure white once they molt into their adult feathers. We'll see. She is the one on the left in back she has a little crest nothing like the Cayuga's have but it is crested. The two Pekins in the middle of the pool are over a year old, yet they aren't as big as the crested jumbo Pekin, she is only about 3 months old.

The Cayugo and Black Swedish are smaller than the Pekin, by just a little. It's kind of hard to tell anything, everyone has their heads in the water, LOL. They all get along so everything's fine, I hope!!!

Bella is the one by the tree as you can see she started being a lot more active today I let out there other female with her and seems in great spirits but the boy is a bit overly smothering when he comes close to her as you can see him in the pen in the back very protective ;) lol but so far so good thanks for everyone's advice!

I forgot to mention she was the one that had been attacked by a cayote/dog bella

So one of our females is limping today while she walks and has a little trouble with running but will push herself to keep up with the others we check both of her feet for any kind of injuries and found nothing no open wounds no scratchet absulutly nothing should I be worried or should I give her a couple of days and see if it passes. Any kind of advice would be great please

I recently lost one of my ducks to a predator:( the day before one of my ducks wondered into the next door empty space which has nothing but plants and trees & luckily came out on the time and she came out to my voice but was injured it seems like a bite that she managed to get away from..the wounds are fairly big too big for a rCoon to have made them..the next day my ducks were out and about and I couldn't find one of them nothing no blood nothing as if something just picked her up.it wasn't until the next morning we found her next door unfortunelty she passed:( can anyone give me any advice will this predator keep coming back now? I have made sure they no longer have a way in next door but I fear this predator is coming in my yard

I lost my Pekin drake (micro) to a coyote last week. Large puncture wounds. And yes, they come back. We are more diligent in getting them into their coop before it gets dark and locking them in for the night. Before we'd let them wander until 8-9pm. Now bedtime is 7pm.

I'm getting rid of my last 2 pekins, 2 males in October. (They are going to a very nice place) just thought id share. Even though I won't have pekins anymore, (though I am getting a white call) I will still continue to answer questions and help out on the thread, as these lovely ducks were my first breed and I have always had a pekin for all the years I've been raising ducks.

Sorry to hear that yes Iam doing the same now no more late night adventures

Great! So happy for y'all. I know my ducks always perk up when you let them be with a friend.

When I bandaged one of mine for angel wing, I kept a friend with her all the time. I just changed out friends. Each day she got to spend time with someone new. I am sure the rest of the flock wasn't too happy with this, but the injured bird was a LOT happier.

Good luck!
M
