Pekin Duck Club!

I have 4, 14 day old pekin ducklings. This was our second day of owning ducks. It has been a learning experience for sure.
To the best of our ability, we are here for you.

How's the water management going?

Here are some ideas if you need them.

Hi, anyone have any suggestions on what to feed Pekins to keep their bills strong? One of ours has some white discoloration and we just want to make sure it is not a lack of nutrients. We feed them a mixture of scratch and crumble. Should I be doing something different?
Thank you

My female pekin duck just had a nest of 21 eggs that she was sitting on and she never hatched any of them bc she completely crushed most of them and I honestly don't know what happened to the rest of them. Now she is very dirty, won't get in her pond and clean herself and this morning I noticed she is losing a lot of weight. The other day I saw her trip but I just thought it was her being clumsy and nothing to be concerned about but this morning she started freaking out and I looked behind me and she was laying on the ground and couldn't get up bc her foot was flopped the other way. Before I could catch her to check on her though she figured out how to fix her foot bc she won't let me catch her. What could be wrong??? sad.png please help...

I would suspect malnourishment or egg yolk peritonitis. She needs to be picked up, cleaned up, weighed, fed the best you can feed her, and a trip to the vet if at all possible would be good.

Ducks can recover from EYP, but it is not guaranteed. If that's what it is, she needs antibiotics, something like Baytril, and may need to be syringe or tube fed. That is not impossible, @casportpony has published information on it (look up "team tube feeding").

You *must* catch her and give her a thorough exam, because it's quite possible that her nest has mites, which could mean that she has mites and is no anemic. Another thing to look for are maggots. Since she broke many of the eggs, it's possible that they attracted flies and that she has maggots on her from them. Whatever is wrong, you need to catch her and check every inch of her for abnormalities.

Can you take her to a vet?

I know I need to catch her :( I'm going to get my husband to help me later. There is a vet in town but they aren't very good and I don't even know if they do ducks. And if they did I can't afford to get antibiotics for her :'( when they were my mother in laws ducks 2 years ago she got hit by a car but nothing came of it so that could also be catching up to her now. Poor girl. That's why I took them, she wasn't taking care of them properly.
