Pekin Duck Club!

I have a male Pekin and that's about how much he weighs.  He's only 2-3 pounds heavier than my female Pekin.  Is it possible Flossy is mixed or a different breed?  I think there are a couple of other breeds that look similar to Pekins.

I have no idea! She very well may be... She was given to me about 2 years ago now, but she was already grown w/ her white feathers, however she was still a baby... So I don't know. Here is a picture of just her...

OK Pekin people! I have a question about my couple! My Drake is giant compared to my duck... & I've always just thought it was normal.. like all Drake's were significantly bigger than ducks, but it's been brought to my attention that maybe they're not this much bigger! So with that being said.. Felix my Drake is between 13-15ish lbs & Flossy my duck is 4-6ish lbs! Is Felix a jumbo Pekin??? Or is Flossy just very petite??

(Flossy is healing from a dog accident)

Idk if you can quit see the actual size difference in these pictures.. but it's definitely there! Lol
I had a jumbo Pekin hen, she weighed way over 7 lbs. She was huge compared to the other Pekins that I had. She wasn't a pure white until she molted the first time. Before the molt she was cream colored. I was told that jumbos are quite often cream colored when young. Since you didn't get her until later you wouldn't know about her coloring as a young bird. I don't have any drakes, only hens, so I really can't comment if there would be that much difference in their size. Good luck.

He was cream colored until after his first molt! I think he may be a jumbo! Which would certainly explain the size difference! I didn't even know there was such a thing! How awesome!

So sad! Be careful, they say that Jumbos have a history of leg problems because of their weight. Might ask around, you may need to give them niacin or peas quite often. My ducks LOVE peas. As someone said, peas are crack for ducks! LOL

Enjoy!

I'm so sorry. I have tried giving my pair peas & they just don't eat them! I've tried a few different fruits & veggies & I just can't get them to eat them! About the only treat they will eat is Catfood\Dogfood...& Of course crickets/critters. What do I need to do different to get them to eat the "good stuff"??

Try floating the peas in their pool. Mine love to dive for them abd chase the peas on the bottom.
