Pekin Duck Club!

How long do Crested Pekins usually live? Most of what I can find online says, "perhaps 5 years," but I would like to hear from someone who has actually had a Pekin hen for her entire life.

This photo is of my sweet Thimbleberry. That is her, "give me tomatoes," face.

here's 2 pictures of Fernanda's beek. It also looks like there may something on her tongue. I thought I saw something, and the picture comfirms it. She is a sweet heart.

Katie, I think your duck is sick. The black on the beak and the scruffy feathers are a sign that something is not well. I worry that the black on her tongue could be something she has partially swallowed. Feeding is the first thing I would address. They should be given duck food and with plenty of protein whether you buy it or make it. If they are molting or laying eggs they do especially need better food. They can eat Chicken layer. I found that once the beak gets that mottled black it takes some time to get them in better condition. Someone gave me some ducks just a few years ago and I've learned a lot. Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks by Dave Holderread is excellent.
