Pekin Duck Club!

I live in the city limits and have a fairly large backyard, but have neighbors within 100 feet on all sides of my house. I've actually found that the neighbors love coming by and looking and saying hi to my ducks when they're in the yard. They're the hit of the neighborhood! Even a marginally large backyard should be enough to keep some ducks. I wouldn't recommend more than 4 or 5, and I would probably keep 2 or 3 if I were you, but I think you're probably fine, esp. if it's legal.

This is Howard and his girlfriend Ducky.

I used to have a large freezer.  My oldest boy for xmas a few yr's ago, bought us a side by side w/ water & ice, crush.  It's very nice but I lost a lot of freezer space for that convince.  But I have to say, we use it!

I coupon and I use to just use my FIL's freezers or my parents freezers but after awhile it just became a hassle so my hubby found a guy about 30 mins from us who buys and sells used appliances and got a almost new standing freezer for like $120 rent a center had the same thing for almost $800

Yeah my little neighbor kids love playing with the ducklings and chicks once they hatch. What do you use to enclose them in your yard?

Maybe my boys would not be so shy if they had more attention then I can give. They only come in the afternoon cuz they know I have peas! Come night it's bedtime and they run and hide. I wish I could change my times but I try but it's hard. Anyway, I try. What more can I do!
And I did have an upright freezer but when the hubby went out of work for 3 yr's those things went just as fast, almost, as the food. lol
Time to put the graminals to sleep! Good night

It is hard! I ordered 4 chicks in the middle of April then a month later we added 3 ducks for the same ship day (aug 5). Aug needs to hurry up and get here tho cause I'm already up to 8 chicks and 4 ducks. And I'm prob gonna call and add 2 or 3 more chicks Monday.

All the animals in the house LOVES peas so they will fit in well! I would love too see a pic if your able to get one! My hubby hates peas too so it works out great for him.
I will see if I can get a good pic tomorrow or Sunday.. When I go to get a pic they probably won't do it though haha. They still aren't te sweetest duckies but they are definantly getting better!!! I kind of think that the peas tied with their love for their pool!

Ummmm....I do more laundry of towels and such for my two duckies than I do for my three, heavily involved in sports boys!!!!!

You don't want to know what my water bill is... much of it washing duck towels!

I posted this earlier and did not get a response...
Will someone please tell me if the yolk in the bottom of a duck nest from a cracked egg will be detrimental to the other developing eggs. My Pekin duck has a nest with 2 eggs that I can see veining inside of. Two of the eggs are not showing any development yet but may in the next few days. One egg cracked and she rolled it out, but the remaining eggs are resting in the yolk at the bottom of the nest. I did not want to add fresh hay for fear that she may then refuse to sit on the remaining ones. Thank you do any advice!

You should start a new thread with this question... hopefully someone will give you an answer. That said, anything that can rot and draw bacteria is bad for eggs, but I've only hatched with incubators and am not familiar with broody ducks.

Wow now those are ROCKS!!!.... Once DD culled a broiler meat bird and there was a three" fencing staple in her gizzard......... not affecting her at all. They eat strange things don't they?

See the white areas in the rocks? I was sure she had gotten some metal in her, but it was all rocks and gravel bits. Staples can definitely harm them... by either puncturing internals or toxicity. If you have other ducks you should sweep the area with a metal detector. There could be more lying around! One of our contractors spilled some nails and I had him down on his hands and knees picking them all up :p
