Pekin Duck Club!

Q for yall - We don't have much of a pool, but we flood our yard and it gets about 2-3 inches deep, and the magpie today went flat and the Pekin girl we had was nibbling at her neck like she wanted to breed, but the Pekin's about 20 weeks, no drake feathers, so not sure what that means... Any ideas? We have 1 for sure, maybe 2 drakes.

My girls are 15 weeks tomorrow and they all go nuts in clean pool water . Flatten out - bottoms up in the air . Bobbin heads . It's craziness and LOUD . Lol we have no drakes . They flatten out and flip up their bottom when anyone try's to pet them even! And while they are being petted they stay like that lol . Whhhhhhaaaaatever lol it's a duck thing I guess . Lol

Females will act like they are doing the deed even though they don't have the equipment. We have all females and each one 'surfs' on the other at some point in time. It is usually a sign that they will be laying soon, if it is indeed a female. I think ours laid within about a month of first starting it.

Sorry, I don't know the specific age bracket but I would imagine it would be around the same time females start laying....so anywhere from 4-6 months. Our girls started imitating male behavior (we have no drakes) just before they started laying. Clear fresh water always seems to initiate the behavior in them. good luck

Thank you! That helps! :)

Oh my goodness! Lol! I've definitely seen one of our females going flat, so that so crazy! Ugh I didn't even know they were that old! :)

My girls would go completely flat on the water - especially in a nice clean pool. It's a sign of submission and invitation to the male.

Can you repost or tell what page it's on? - it might have gotten overlooked as it's been busy around here lately...

X2 - He can definitely kill your chickens. Chickens can be severely injured or even killed as they are not made to take in what he's got...
Yes, I have definitely seen one of my gals go flat in the water. So they are getting to that stage.
