I am curious - for all of you that have older Pekins - when did yours start laying? All my chickens are now laying and I am still waiting patiently (NOT) for my first duck eggs. Yangtze is 23 weeks old and Ping is about 21 1/2 weeks. I also have a Rouen girl who is 21 1/2 weeks.

We got our first ones in May and the second group in June. The Pekin didn't start laying till she was 5 months old and the Rouen was 8 months. The other 2 Rouens (our second grouping) started around 8 months also. As a comparison neither of our Muscovy girls have started yet and I am sure at least one of them is around these ages. I think they are waiting for warmer weather.

3 days till my 4 babies come yay!! i cant wait!! i have their brooder pen all ready and set up . a tiny lil pool bought for swim time, jugs ready to cut for head cleaning. feed bought, treats bought,

and we are building the coop today ..... my 15- 4 week old barred rocks are getting restless in their 8x4x1 pen so ive been letting them out of the netting to roam around the top of their brooder - they should have fun looking at their new play mates now

im super excited!!!!!

and their names are going to be - Charlotte , Webber, Cookie, and Nibblet lol

Sounds like you are all ready, BarredRockGirls! They are a hoot!!!


I took mine outside for just 10 minutes or so yesterday to play....still a little too chilly yet.






I put them in my broody hen pen. They loved eating grass!

Soleil started laying right after she turned 4 months but I heard that they typically start around 6-10 months. I hope you start getting duck eggs soon

Meyer hatchery, its an hour from my house so the babies wil be here first thing and thats were i got my chickies from . they are all perfect . great hatchery
